Admiral Raymond Ames Spruance, Quiet Warrior Battle Midway Autograph ''Rare'':

Raymond Ames Spruance [1886 1969] was a prominent United States Admiral noted for his leadership during key naval battles of World War II. Spruance graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1906 and his first assignment was aboard the battleship USS Iowa, followed by serving aboard the USS Minnesota during the world cruise of the Great White Fleet from 1907 to 1909. In 1926, he graduated from the Naval War College and commanded various destroyer and battleships leading up to World War II. Upon the outbreak of war, he commanded a Cruiser Division under Admiral Halsey. On June 4, 1942, Spruance while serving as commander of Task Force 16, which included the USS carriers Enterprise and Hornet at the Battle of Midway, successful commanded U.S forces to victory, which resulted in the sinking of four large carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Admiral Spruance also commanded at the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June of 1944, which eliminated the Imperial Japanese Navy's ability to conduct large scale actions. Upon the completion of the war in the Pacific, he emerged as one of the greatest admirals in American naval history. Listed for sale is the exceedingly rare autograph of Admiral Raymond Ames Spruance signed on a commemorative cover. The cover commemorates ''U.S. Armed Force'' and is signed ''Raymond A, Spruance Admiral, U.S.N. [Ret] in black pen. The cover is postmarked Washington, 1946, and is affixed with commemorative U.S. military postage stamps. The cover measures 6.50 x 3.50 inches, overall, in fine condition with some trivial toning. The autograph of Admiral Spruance is not common, the example offered is authentic and ideal for display.
