When I entered the cutlery trade in1990, Blackie was the chief knife designer at Gerber. He had gottenhomesick and moved his workshop to North, South Carolina. Gerber gavehim Carolina Knife & Tool Company as a market for his designs. Mydistributor noted as a preface to the CK&T listings that thecompany was a division of Gerber. Eventually, Blackie moved to Texasand joined Myerco as a partner. Myerco knives are still made byGerber. This knife lists the South Carolina address on the packagebut CK&T's current address is the same as Gerber -- you canverify this by Googling "Carolina Knife".
Walter"Blackie" Collins was the previous publisher of BladeMagazine, one of the pioneers of The Knifemaker's Guild, author of several books including "Knife Throwing -Sport..Survival..Defense," and a world renowned knife maker.
Hewas the first designer to see the practicality and utility ofusing something other than the standard bone or wood and complicatedsteel assembly for folding knives.
